   Acknowledgement

of Country

We acknowledge that the land that we gather and perform on is the traditional country and homelands of the Taribelang Bunda, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Bailai Peoples of the Bundaberg region.

We acknowledge they have walked, cared for, sung, told stories and danced on this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge and respect their spiritual relationship, cultural heritage, beliefs and connection to this land, and it is still important to their descendants of today.

We acknowledge the Elders, those here today and those who have passed back into the great dreaming.

Newspaper clipping regarding the passing of Miss Essie Hefferan

Text from the above newspaper article:

ESSIE HEFFERAN DIES IN GYMPIE
Prominent Bundaberg musician Miss Theresa Mary (Essie) Hefferan died in Gympie General Hospital about noon yesterday.

Miss Hefferan, who was 47, received severe head injuries when her car overturned 20 miles north of Gympie on Saturday.

The hospital staff said she did not regain consciousness. Miss Hefferan, was born in Bundaberg - the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hefferan, of Bundaberg. She had lived at 252 Bourbong Street at the time of her death, and had lived in Bundaberg all her life.

Her main interest had been the Bundaberg Amateur Players, of which the was a co-founder in 1949, and it's musical director since its inception.

The president of the Players, Mr. W.M. Millar, said yesterday: "She occupied a unique position in the Players, and her passing will be deeply felt."

Miss Hefferan had piloted all the Players' musical productions, including several Gilbert and Sullivan works, Leharis "Merry Widow,", and Schubert's "Lilac Time."

Last year she made her only venture in straight production, with the successful comedy, "The Blue Goose."

Miss. Hefferan, L.T.C.L.L. Mus. A., as a professional music teacher, was responsible for the training of many of Bundaberg's leading pianists and singers.

She was the pianist for the Bundaberg Musical Society for many years.
