"CORPSE" 1989 | | Phillip Fresta won the Best Performance Oscar for his double role in Corpse; described as in the same vein as Deathtrap and Sleuth. Director Joan Butterworth also did Deathtrap for Players in 1986.
Set in London in 1936 on the same day as the abdication of Edward VIII, and according to the News-Mail theatre review, "fulfilled all expectations of the large opening night audience, enjoying every minute of the electric atmosphere."
"Bob Adams has never been seen to better advantage as army veteran Major Powell, lulling the audience into a false sense of security before the next shock occurred; illusions were effectively executed prompting the murmur "Where on earth did he come from?"
Supporting roles were played by the late Rick Crawford as a Policeman and Gail Spinaze as a "bizarre, gin-sodden, man-hungry landlady." (sounds like a great part)
