    Youth Theatre cancelled

      covid-19 update banner

    September 2020

Sadly, the world of live theatre globally has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since temporarily closing the Playhouse Theatre on March 17, the committee of the Bundaberg Players Incorporated has been investigating how we can plan for the recommencement of live theatre in Bundaberg, with Government health restrictions making it impossible for us to open our auditorium doors to the large crowds we normally enjoy.

The health and safety of our cast, crew and audience members remains our most important priority.

We hope you managed to view some of the entertainment offered through our BURP (Bundaberg’s Unique Relaxed Performances) season throughout September. These performances were viewed by small, socially-distanced audiences in our theatre, and by members and friends watching the live stream through our Facebook page. Whilst we encountered a few teething problems with our live stream, we have used this event as a learning platform as a possible means of presenting other performances in the future. To this end, there will now be three more BURPs – Friday 23 October, Friday 27 November and Thursday 24 December.

Our organisation wishes to stress that ‘Mamma Mia’ has not been cancelled. We are currently working on a plan to stage the production within coming months and guarantee that all patrons with tickets booked for the original performance dates will automatically be provided with tickets for the new dates (when announced). Further details will be released soon.

Whilst we have not been able to proceed with the planned productions in 2020, we wish to confirm that all these productions will be staged as soon as we are physically able to do so, and that the Playhouse Theatre’s committee is working tremendously hard behind-the-scenes to deliver a wonderful night at the theatre within the constraints that the COVID-SAFE restrictions impose.

We felt it important to perform a production before the end of the year and are very excited to announce that the production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ will now be staged for three performances only on Thursday December 3, Friday December 4 and Saturday December 5. As it is not possible to stage it at the Playhouse, we are transforming RiverFeast, East Bundaberg into a Shakespearian woodland glade. Ticketing processes will be announced in coming weeks, with preferential Subscriber bookings being offered before general sales commence. This is developing into a really exciting project and we hope you will enjoy this unique theatre experience.

Once again, our organisation thanks you for your patience during the past six months. We look forward to the day when we can welcome you back to the Playhouse Theatre, but for now – hope you appreciate our efforts to ensure that the “shows can go on”……….

This is a constantly evolving situation and the theatre will continue to post the latest information on our web-site: . We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
