SHOCK!
By Brian Clemens was first produced by York/Triumph Productions in 1972. This classic thriller was last performed at the Playhouse Theatre in 1987 and was directed by one of Bundaberg Players Incorporated founding members and long time president, Gordon Dick.

For the 21st anniversary revival, director’s Tracie Faithfull & Raymond Sinnamon are eagerly anticipating the production process and hope to send few thrills and chills through the audience.

The playwright, Brian Clemens is a prolific writer of thrillers & dramas. He is a screenwriter and television producer, possibly best known for his work on The Avengers, The Professionals and more recently the Highlander series, Bugs & Diagnosis Murder. Clemens is related to Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens), a fact reflected in the naming of his two sons, Samuel Joshua Twain Clemens and George Langhorne Clemens

Shock ! is a thriller with a cast of four men and three women. Air hostess Maggie lives in an isolated house, to which Ann and Maggie’s “latest” – airline pilot Terry – are coming to celebrate her birthday. Maggie has some peculiar tastes, including tape-recording the most private intimacies between herself and her lovers. This indulgence soon causes consternation among the visitors, which include her neighbour Jenny and Jenny’s husband. This culminates in some very nasty moments … maybe even murder. Ann, who was very much affected by a recent accident, is distraught when apparently threatened by Jenny; but in the last moments, following Jenny’s disappearance, a final twist proves the relevance of the play’s title.

While the storyline might seem to some, to be not for the faint hearted, don’t be put off, because just like Clemens other works – The Avengers and Diagnosis Murder, there is still plenty of humour to ease the minds of those with a nervous disposition.

We hope to see you at the Playhouse and get ready to be Shocked!
